New System

Yes it has arrived and it is more than I expected it to be. The 27 inch monitor is so much bigger than 5 inches extra from the 22 inch. However I can seamlessly join the two monitors together. creating a space of 3890 x 1080. Because they both run at 1080p each window can be dragged to either monitor or stretched to cover both without loss of resolution nor having to be resized.

Here is the monitor set up :

Here’s what The Junkyard looks like:

Junkyard Wide

Click on the picture to view better. As you can see without zooming the whole of the dance floor can be viewed. Awesome. The speed of the new system is super and I am really pleased how second life performs. Running at 18 fps in high to ultra. But I will play with the settings and see. I made a video using two monitors but the processing size is only 2048 x 500. This needs work. Here is my second attempt. Watch full screen.

hehehe I will play. should be able to get it bigger I think.

All in all I am a very happy bunny. Reckon I won’t need to upgrade for at least another month (hahaha)

Sorry its been awhile. I’ve had problems. I decided to upgrade my computer to 64 bit and bring up the RAM to 8 gigs. I then installed x64 Firestorm. I spent two weeks trying to get it to work without success. The whole system would freeze. After testing everything I could, GPU CPU RAM I had to conclude that it was a motherboard ( RAM slots) fault. I am now running 64 bit with 4 gigs of RAM. I am buying a new computer as this one is showing signs of breaking down ( RAM and hard disk ). Its 5 years old.

So when I am fixed up there will be more posts. Sorry.

I’ve got the blues.

12 Hours in Second Life

I have shadows enabled and as the sun rises and sets shadows get longer and you see the shadows lengthen. I have shown moonrise below to give you an idea. I don’t think many people have shadows enabled , Storm says it crashes her computer; others have said it gives the user too much information to process. I disagree I always have shadows enabled now. For me it adds a realism to the whole scene. I don’t know how long the night / day cycle is in second life, can someone help? Leave a comment with this info if you can. Also your opinion on having shadows enabled . Thanks. Please watch full screen.

graphicssettingsI have since turned off Local Lights which gets rid of the glare that some personal lights produce. This means I also lose lights from the Junkyard like from the sign.  This seems to be optimum for me. I like shadows took me a few days to get used to them but I have now and it adds another dimension of realism. There is some lag but this is tolerable. It came as a bit of a shock when, a while back, I realised what I see / experience is not the same as others. Everyone has different settings almost making sl a subjective experience. So I make videos of what I see. With my new graphics card I run graphics at High with Advanced Lighting Mode and Ambient Occlusion with Sun / Moon shadows.

7th Birthday For Junkyard Blues

YAY the Junkyard is now 7 years old the oldest blues club in second life. Congrats Kiff and Dina awesome. I made some videos to celebrate:

on my second day in second life about a year ago, i found the jy. i think i had searched for the blues not that im any expert but it seemed like a good idea. The whole place was aesthetically pleasing, blue tiles. There was a dj and I was made to feel welcome. Not too many there. I stood, god forbid I would try dancing. I perved the dancers. They were all so pretty even the men. The music was great no fault there. Took me a few days to suss everything out but by the end of the week i was dancing. I had been back every time I logged on til log off. that hasn’t changed that much, well it has a bit. I thought everyone was really cool. I said “cor I wanna be like them” So I set about properly joining this family. All I needed was kindness, thoughtfulness, patience, a sense of humour and a fair share of love to give away. still working on some of them. But that pretty much sums up the people of jy. , Then I met someone.(Its all detailed on my blog)

Over the year I have had many teachers, all willing to share their knowledge or expertise. I’ve learned loads about sl and during this year I have met incredible people some of whom have changed my life. I have had 4 partners three I met in jy. see sl blog). I met Storm here. Everywhere I have found kindness and thoughtfulness (well with some exception). I have 98 friends easily the majority are jy people. I have met doctors, scientists, graduates in all sorts of things, writers, poets, artists the many who would just say “I love the blues” and mean it. And that’s enough for us all: a love of the blues.

Its a place where you feel at home. You get to be known and get treated and greeted like a friend. It is a meeting place. But also it is a community. The oldest blues club in second life. Heres a snippet of the birthday party, people paying tribute. I have met 4 of my 5 partners here, the last one will stick I think 🙂 Just like any club you meet a girl and fall in love. You chat you dance you swap snippets of real life and so it goes….

The Junkyard is a community, no one would deny that. It runs 24/7 and people are from all over the world. The language is English but don’t be surprised if you read people chatting in Norwegian or French. We all mix. We are getting new members everyday despite the limitations imposed coz of griefers. There are people who I share confidences with and I have gone public about having and surviving cancer. Was given a safe environment to do this. Hope it helped. The point is there is a lot of sharing going on just like any community. Wanna join? Gimme a bell I host

Mon to Wed 6am to 8am Second Life Time (Pacific) and Sunday 2am to 6am slt. I will fix you up with a membership tag.

And of course we dance to a live dj spinning the blues. Perfect Great looking avatars, blues lovers, dancing, chatting, grooving.

I captured Sianis piece about JY, Bard was hosting and read out peoples eulogies. The Junkyard is much loved. Well done Kiff and Dina you have created something wonderful.

You will see some grey its because it takes time to rezz such a lot of avatars in one place. Wonder if server side baking will improve it.

However this one I took earlier is better. With Miss Luci Nice Stuff sorry bout the typing.

Junkyard Blues

The reason I registered this name is that we have had a lot of trouble from griefers, these are people who have been crashing the Junkyard Blues sim and demanding money. Cybersquatters often grab a domain name and put up disparaging comments to get the owner of the “brand” to buy it. Rather than let that happen I took this site. The official site gives a wealth of knowledge about jyb. That’s where you will find the essence of the blues cybercommunity in Second life. All you have to do is go to secondlife dot com sign up and come visit. Please read the letter from Kiff and Dina on the menu

DJ_HOST SCHEDULE 11_26_12.jpg

This business of time needs a post all of its own.

Sittin’ here waitin’, waitin’ for IMs,
All of my waitin’, babe, is all in vain,
When nothing’s goin’ on
Nothin’ with you – it hurts me, too.
And I never thought I would owe a thank you
To Mahmoud Ahmadinejad,
oh, nothin’s goin’ on, nothing with you
It hurts me, too.
When your wifey goes to bed and you get online
I’m here on British Daylight Savings Time.
When you finish your work day, I’m not here then too.
When you have to pick up the kids I must sleep.
I’ve been a-weepin’, yes, I moanin’,
Eastern Daylight Savings Time, time to party
Time for me to bring in the milk.
Second Life Time is Pacific Standard Time
So wrong with you
Lord Howe Time doesn’t even give me half an hour
Gonna shake your hand, I’m gonna say goodbye,
‘Cause you don’t need me, baby, you got other things to do.
So, thing’s goin’ wrong,
So wrong with you
Central Time, Honduras Time, Magadan Time –
I need a horizontal time zone,
But a vertical one would do at a pinch.
I want you, baby, but we just outta sync.

Kiff (The Owner) is a great supporter of Education so he won’t mind if i digress. An American kid drops out of High School every 9 seconds and only 20% of American Males have a Family Dinner. It Is Worrying

Interesting Thing Time:>

Worrying isn’t it. Kids are not being engaged. I have found well my 19 year old daughter found, this wonderful teaching aid. Its 3d AND Interactive. I know how it was made using Prezi. I taught my daughter how to create something like this. Have a look and interact then we will get back to The Best Blues Club in town, any town!!!!
